Chris Crowley, ACTE’s president, has spoken out in favour of a high speed train between Gatwick and Heathrow.
While many in the industry don’t support the idea, including Gatwick’s CEO, Crowley said he thought a fast rail link between the two airports would benefit business travellers.
Speaking to ABTN, BCD’s senior VP, global client team EMEA said: “Why would you not want a fast link between the two major airports?”
He said travelling between the two airports was currently a “nightmare”, but “if there is an easy and fast way to connect between Gatwick and Heathrow they could really feed off each other”.
Creating a Heathwick hub would be a better solution than building a new airport in the Thames Estuary, said Crowley.
“I don’t mind the idea,”he said, “but I think for the cost we could build a fast rail link between Heathrow and Gatwick and really focus on making those airports successful.
"I know it costs a lot of money, but all these things do."
