Heathrow has installed a new screen to show live ground travel information at Terminal 2’s baggage reclaim hall.
The screens include live price and journey information allowing arriving passengers to compare the costs and time needed for them to get to central London using either the Heathrow Express train service to Paddington or a black cab.
These screens also include information such as real-time traffic updates and weather reports. They use data from several sources including GPS traffic information, Google, Highways Agency, Met Office and Heathrow Express timetables.
Heathrow Express director Fraser Brown said: “The aim of the journey comparison generator is to enable Heathrow passengers to get into London as speedily, easily and cheaply as possible. By harnessing many different sources of real-time data into one we are helping make this happen.
“Research shows Heathrow Express trains are three times faster than taxis and a quarter of the price. These screens show how that comparison varies minute to minute depending on traffic, weather and time of day.”
Heathrow Express, which is owned by the airport, said that the screens would also be translated into the language of the majority of people on the arriving flight this summer. The screens will be introduced at Heathrow’s Terminals 3 and 5 “later in the year”.
