Heathrow had to close both runways this afternoon (July 12) due to a fire on an Ethiopian Airlines’ Dreamliner aircraft.
The airport said it had suspended departures and arrivals following the incident which happened at around 16.30 when the London Fire Brigade was called to the airport to assist Heathrow’s own fire crews.
The Metropolitan Police said that no passengers were onboard the aircraft and there were no reports of any injuries. The aircraft "is parked at a remote stand away from the terminals".
Heathrow said in a statement: "Due to an internal fire onboard an aircraft, all arrivals and departures are temporarily suspended while airport fire crews attend to the incident."
"Cause of fire on a plane at Heathrow is unexplained and under investigation," added the Met in a Tweet.
