Gatwick Airport revealed a profit before tax of £164.4 million between April and September 2011.
The six-month figure marks an increase of 34.4% on the same period in 2010.
The solid financial results were fuelled by a growth in passenger numbers at the airport.
Traffic grew by 8.5% during the period, but accounting for the impact of the ash cloud and other one-off events the figure is thought to be closer to 3.3%.
Airlines Easyjet, British Airways and Norwegian expanded their operations and added new routes at Gatwick.
In a bid to drive future passenger growth, Gatwick is now concentrating efforts on making the “most efficient use” of the airport’s one runway, said Stewart Wingate, the airport’s CEO.
“We have now increased the aircraft landing charge during our busiest period - the Summer - and removed the landing charge in Winter to encourage greater all-year round use of the airport,”
“We are already seeing a number of new airlines choosing to operate services from Gatwick starting this Winter.”
