London Gatwick is expanding its long-haul routes to Asia this summer after adding new connections to Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Azerbaijan Airlines began operating three times per week from Gatwick to Baku last month, while Turkmenistan Airlines has just launched a twice-weekly service to Ashgabat. Uzbekistan Airways is also now operating a weekly service between Gatwick and Tashkent.
Gatwick said that it would be offering more than 90 weekly flights to Asia and the Middle East this summer as its long-haul renaissance continues. The airport now serves 12 destinations across the two regions including airports in China, India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The airport will be further boosted this summer by the start of Singapore Airlines’ flights to Singapore from 22 June, as well as two new services to China: Air China will fly to Beijing starting on 1 June followed by China Southern flights to Guangzhou from 20 June.
Stephanie Wear, Gatwick’s VP of aviation development, said: “We are delighted to welcome three new flag carriers to London Gatwick, providing excellent connectivity to previously underserved markets in Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
“We are continuing to develop our long-haul options at London Gatwick and these new routes, while fantastic destinations in their own right, also provide passengers with excellent onward connectivity across Asia.”
