Flybe is to introduce flights between Liverpool and Belfast City airport from early 2015.
The regional carrier will operate the year-round service from February 2 with three daily flights on weekdays in each direction and one service on both Saturday and Sunday.
Flybe will be competing with Easyjet on the Liverpool-Belfast route although Easyjet flies to Belfast International.
Flybe’s chief commercial officer Paul Simmons said: “Flybe has, over the last 12 months, undergone a significant overhaul of the business.
“This has resulted in a more cost-effective, efficient and flexible operation, enabling us to increase the number of routes we can offer to better serve the travelling needs of both our business and leisure customers.”
Mark Povall, director of air service development for Liverpool John Lennon, added: “We know that demand for this service to Belfast City is strong and we will also continue to look at further opportunities for Flybe to serve the Liverpool city region.”
