Finnair has had to cancel flights due to a planned strike over the next week.
The strike by cabin crew and aviation unions is due to start on Friday (November 15) with walkouts planned by staff on alternate days until November 23. They are in dispute with the airline over pay and benefits.
“The strikes scheduled for alternate days would paralyse Finnair’s traffic almost completely,” said Finnair in a statement.
“Negotiations are still ongoing and Finnair is hoping to reach an agreement and avoid the strike. However, Finnair already now has to cancel many flights to avoid congestion at Helsinki airport in the event of a strike.”
The airline said that the two unions involved in the industrial action had threatened to take further strikes between November 27 and 30.
“Finnair is currently analysing the situation regarding these days,” added the airline.
“In case of a cancelled flight, customers should not arrive at the airport but act according to instructions given on the Finnair website, where we are constantly updating flight information.”
