Etihad Airways is to significantly increase capacity on major routes from Abu Dhabi to India.
The carrier said it would triple the number of seats on its routes to Mumbai and Delhi from November 1, as both services will go from daily to double daily as well as using larger aircraft.
Etihad, which has purchased a 24 per cent stake in Indian carrier Jet Airways, will also raise capacity on its Abu Dhabi-Chennai flights by using a larger Airbus A321 aircraft by the end of this year.
CEO James Hogan said: “India is one of the world’s fastest-growing destinations, and a key market in the growth strategy of Etihad Airways.
“Following the recent signing of a new air services agreement between India and the UAE, we now have the opportunity to add significant capacity between the two countries.”
Etihad is also planning to introduce codeshares on a range of domestic flights operated by Jet Airways but this is subject to approval from Indian regulators.
