Dubai-based airline Emirates has entered into a codeshare agreement with American carrier United Airlines, the companies announced on Thursday (30 March).
The agreement will allow Emirates customers to connect to more than 150 US cities, as well as destinations in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America, via major US hubs in Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.
According to the carriers, the agreement will see ‘enhanced customer offerings’ such as the issuance of a single ticket, Emirates baggage allowance for United flights and baggage transfers through to the final destination.
Frequent flyer members of Emirates’ Skywards programme will be able to earn and redeem points on all flights across United’s international and domestic network. While members of United’s MileagePlus programme can earn points on select flights in the Emirates network when travelling from Newark to Dubai on United Airlines and onwards to select destinations operated by Emirates.
Emirates chief commercial officer, Adnan Kazim, said: "We are extremely delighted to activate this historic partnership with United and significantly expand our footprint in the US.”
Emirates currently offers services between its Dubai hub and 12 US cities, as well as five points across Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
