Low cost carrier Easyjet will open its 23rd European base next summer, in Lisbon.
The airline will expand on its 16 existing routes with the launch of five new services from Lisbon International Airport next April.
Two additional aircraft will be based at the Portuguese aircraft, to operate the new routes.
Easyjet will fly four times per week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) from Lisbon to Amsterdam, Bourdeax and Asturias from April 18.
From April 19, the airline will commence three-times weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from Lisbon to Venice and Copenhagen.
The airline said it plans to offer early morning departures, to allow business travellers to make return trips within the same day to key European cities such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
Catherine Lynn, Easyjet’s customer and revenue director, said the launch of the new base “illustrates our long-term commitment to the market and it will enable us to grow our operations further”.
“Along with significantly contributing to the local economy,” she added, “our new base will also boost visitors to Lisbon - with over 2 million passengers travelling to and from Lisbon, and 4 million in and out of Portugal in the first year, all travelling with Easyjet."
