Easyjet to launch Gatwick to Jersey service

Easyjet is to operate a year-round service from Gatwick to Jersey from March 2014 when it takes over 25 slots from Flybe.

Easyjet will run three return flights on the route from March 30, 2014 – Flybe currently operates four daily services on the Gatwick-Jersey route.

It will be Easyjet’s fifth UK to Jersey route as the airline flies from Southend, Liverpool, Newcastle and Glasgow to the Channel island.

Easyjet is due to take over all 25 of Flybe’s slots at Gatwick from the start of the summer 2014 schedule. Easyjet is paying Flybe £20 million for the arrival and departure slots.

The Gatwick-Jersey service will use an Airbus A319 aircraft with a capacity of 156 seats.

Ali Gayward, Easyjet’s UK commercial manager, said: “The new early flight will allow business travellers to reach London in time for meetings while the evening departure enables them to travel home on the same day. The introduction of low-cost seats will also help to boost tourism to Jersey.”

Jersey’s economic development minister Alan Maclean added: “The airline has the capability of delivering in excess of a quarter of a million passengers per year on the Gatwick route alone, which will be of great benefit to the vitally important tourism and business economy.”
