Easyjet is to begin flights from London Gatwick to Tel Aviv, which will be the carrier’s third UK route to the Israeli city.
The airline will start services from Gatwick on April 1, 2014, when it will operate three times per week – on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The flights will complement existing services to Tel Aviv from Luton and Manchester.
Hugh Aitken, Easyjet’s UK commercial manager, said: “We expect to carry around 50,000 passengers each year on the new Gatwick service.
“Combined with our flights from Luton and Manchester this means we will operate 16 weekly flights to Tel Aviv from the UK.”
Easyjet, which is already Gatwick’s biggest airline, is expanding further at the Sussex airport after buying all Flybe’s 25 slots for £20 million.
The airline is also to temporarily increase its Manchester-Tel Aviv flights from two to three per week from February 17-April 28, 2014.
Easyjet, which began services from Luton to Tel Aviv in November 2009, is also to add a Berlin–Tel Aviv route from February 2014, following the signing of an “open skies” agreement between the EU and Israel.
