Japan Airlines is to postpone the launch of its new Tokyo to Helsinki service due to the continued grounding of its Dreamliner fleet.
JAL said that the route, which was scheduled to start on February 25, will be postponed indefinitely with a new launch date to be announced “at a later time”.
The airline said the decision had been made “in view of necessary adjustments to JAL's international routes utilising the Boeing 787 aircraft since January 16, 2013”.
“JAL apologises to all customers and related parties for the inconvenience and concerns caused as a result of recent issues with the 787 fleet.”
All Dreamliners continue to be grounded worldwide due to safety fears about onboard batteries which caught fire on two separate aircraft last month. There has been no indication so far about when the B787 will return to service.
JAL’s Japanese rival ANA last week revealed the financial costs of its Dreamliners being grounded in January.
