DVT: A hearing started last week at the High Court where sufferers and next of kin from deep vein thrombosis (DVT), sought to prove that DVT can be classed as an accident under the 1929 Warsaw Aviation Convention. The families claimed that the convention places the airlines under an obligation to ensure safety. The counter argument was that DVT was not proven and in any event damages should only be paid for mechanical faults. The class action sited 27 airlines including British Airways, American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic. The hearing was adjourned until 18 November when the Judge acknowledged that he had been a BA shareholder.
