Continental Airlines has announced it will start selling its economy class seats which feature extra legroom.
Depending on the type of aircraft, seats with extra legroom offer at least seven extra inches of space. From March 17, these can be purchased online or at check-in.
Jim Compton, Continental's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said: "Our customers want more choices. Seats with additional legroom are higher-value seats, and we want to offer them to customers who recognize that value."
The extra cost of the premium seats "will vary depending on a number of factors, including the length of the flight and market", said Continental.
Members of Continental's frequent flyer scheme OnePass will still be able to book economy class seats with extra legroom without paying an additional fee.
