Bmi Regional has announced its first new routes since becoming an independent company.
The Aberdeen-based airline will introduce flights from Aberdeen to Bristol and also Manchester to Antwerp from the start of the winter season on October 29.
Bmi Regional was sold by British Airways’ parent company IAG earlier this year to Sector Aviation. The airline last week announced it would be launching its first advertising campaign.
Ian Woodley, Bmi Regional’s chairman, said: “We believe the introduction of these new routes alongside maintaining our existing services demonstrates a clear statement of our intent to develop the business.
“The additional flights will offer customers greater choice and flexibility when travelling directly as well as providing additional onward connectivity.”
The two new routes will be operated twice daily using Bmi Regional’s fleet of Embraer jet aircraft.
Bmi Regional is currently operating under a “transition agreement” with Bmi but will become fully independent on October 28. It will be the only airline to retain the Bmi name with the integration of mainline Bmi into British Airways and the closure of Bmibaby earlier this month.
“We’ve already taken on an additional 20 staff at East Midlands, with over 20 more joining in the next six weeks, including the opening of our new call centre,” said Woodley.
“As well as maintaining our operations centre in Aberdeen we are also about to move from temporary office accommodation into our new 8,000 square feet complex at East Midlands airport.”
