British Airways is introducing a new “hand baggage only” fare for five of its routes from Gatwick.
The fares are being offered on flights to Amsterdam, Dubrovnik, Jersey, Tunis and Turin from today (February 19) for travel from February 26, with prices from £39 one-way.
BA said that the discount compared to fares including checked luggage varied between £9 and £15 depending on the route.
Peter Simpson, BA’s director of Gatwick, said: “The introduction of our hand baggage only fare is all about giving our customers more freedom to choose the kind of flying they want.
“Many British Airways customers on Gatwick short-haul breaks choose not to check in a bag as they’re already taking advantage of our generous two-bag hand luggage policy. Those who still want to check in a bag will simply pay the same price they do now.”

The airline said that it planned to add the new type of fare to all of its short-haul flights from Gatwick "over time".
BA added that passengers choosing the “hand baggage only” fare would be able to carry on cases measuring up to 56cm x 45cm x 25cm as well as a laptop bag and a handbag. For full details of BA's baggage regulations, click here.
The airline said that customers on these flights would also be able to choose their seats for free within 24 hours of departures while food and drink would continue to be included.
