British Airways is to add capacity on the route between London City and Edinburgh by increasing daily flights from eight to 10.
The carrier is also considering the possibility of more services between London City and Glasgow.
The increase on Edinburgh flights will come into effect this summer – the move comes after Cityjet withdrew from the route at the end of October.
BA chief executive Keith Williams told The Scotsman newspaper that the expansion will raise the airline's daily flights between London and Scotland to a new record of 57.
“London City is the business area of London and has become quite a big operation, where we are now the largest player,” said Williams. “If the demand is there, we will equally fly more from Glasgow too.”
Williams visited Edinburgh airport yesterday to open a new £1.5 million executive lounge.
