Reward agreement extended to the US
British Airways and American Express (Amex) have renewed their strategic card partnership.
The new agreement, managed by BA's rewards subsidiary The Mileage Company, includes one corporate and three consumer co-branded cards.
The Amex Membership Rewards Agreement launched last year is also to be extended to the US for the first time.
The extension allows Amex card members to transfer reward points to BA's Executive Club Frequent Flyer programme for travel on it and other oneworld members.
BA also confirmed that it would continue to accept Amex as payment for air tickets worldwide.
Amex and BA said that corporate card customers in the UK could continue to collect On Business Points
"The partnership between British Airways and American Express has been very popular with customers and I'm delighted that we're continuing our partnership," said Andrew Swaffield, MD of The Mileage Company.
Raymond Joabar, MD for Amex UK and Ireland, said working with BA had strengthened card member loyalty and Amex's growth both in the UK and globally.
Mr Joabar added: "Our BA co-brand cards are amongst our most successful products. This is a great opportunity for us to enhance our card portfolio with one of the world's most respected airlines."
The announcement this week signals a strengthening in the relationship between BA and Amex which has in the past been marred by legal action.
In 2002 BA decided not to accept credit card payments for discounted corporate net fares in the UK and was sued by Amex as a result.
The case was settled out of court in 2004 and the two companies announced a new corporate card deal for the SME market the following year.
