FARNBOROUGH, one of the most famous names in aviation and the site of the first officially recognised powered flight in the UK, now has a small aviation museum. Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST), which was established in1994 to help safeguard part of Britain”s priceless aeronautical heritage, has taken over Trenchard House (left), the former HQ of the Royal Flying Corp, on the main Farnborough Road (A325) by The Swan pub. It is early days yet and the museum is currently only open at the weekends. The museum hopes to save the nearby historic wind tunnels, which not only played an important role in the development of pre-Second World War aircraft but later, upgraded, helped in the development of Concorde.
