The flight zone over Rejkjavik International Airport and Keflavik International Airport has been closed today (April 23), due to airborne volcanic ash.
While the volcanic ash previously affected large swathes of Europe, it is the first time the two airports have been closed since the volcanic activity started in the south of Iceland last March.
Icelandair has cancelled flights around 13 flights today, including those to London Heathrow, New York, Seattle, Orlando and Boston.
Iceland Express has delayed its flights until tomorrow.
