Flights at Amsterdam Schiphol are continuing to face major disruption due to wintry conditions, with more cancellations expected in the next few days.
The Netherlands hub airport has already suffered hundreds of cancellations since Friday (2 January) and warned in an update on Tuesday (6 January) that “only limited air traffic is possible to and from Schiphol” due to the weather.
KLM has been the worst-affected carrier by the weather-related disruption with hundreds of cancellations over the past few days.
“Our snow crews are working around the clock to keep the runways clear, and aircraft are being carefully de-iced to ensure everyone can travel safely,” added the airport.
“However, the wintry conditions are expected to cause disruptions to the flight schedule in the coming days. This may result in delays and cancellations.”
Reports from local media said that more than 400 flights had been cancelled at Schiphol on Tuesday with another 200 services already cancelled for Wednesday (7 January).
Weather conditions have also led to the cancellation of all train services to Schiphol on Tuesday morning, while Eurostar trains between London and Amsterdam have been disrupted too.
