Airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair cancelled flights to and from Italy on Friday (October 18) due to a planned strike by air traffic controllers.
Italian ATC workers are due to take industrial action between 13.00 and 17.00 local time. Airport ground handlers and security staff in Italy are also due to go on strike.
“EasyJet has reduced its Italian flights, and as a result we have proactively cancelled 56 flights. The strike will also impact all flights that over-fly Italian airspace,” said the airline in a statement.
“There is a risk of delays and late notice cancellations depending on the scale of the strike during the afternoon and evening period.”
As well as making cancellations, Ryanair has also rescheduled some services outside of the four-hour strike period.
"This strike is also likely to affect flights overflying Italy and therefore we expect further flight delays and cancellations on the day," said Ryanair in a statement.
