Mexico’s budget carrier Viva Aerobus has signed a deal to replace its entire fleet with 52 Airbus A320 aircraft by 2016.
The order is the largest in the manufacturer’s history from a Latin American airline.
The carrier, which was one of the pioneers of budget flying in South America, will phase out its current fleet of old Boeing 737-300s used to launch its ‘Bus to Air’ model, which has converted thousands of long-distance bus travellers to flying.
Forty of the aircraft on order will be the new generation A320neo, which have a 15 per cent reduction in fuel consumption compared to the current model.
