Latvian airline airBaltic has reported a loss of €184.8
million for the six months to 30 June, with revenue falling 62 per cent to
€82.5 million. According to the carrier, it saw a 64 per cent drop in passenger
numbers to 800,000 after suspending flights for a total of 62 days due to the
coronavirus crisis. Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said the airline had cut
capacity and costs to mitigate the financial impact of the pandemic and secured
financing from its shareholders. He said coronavirus has caused “the largest
crisis in aviation history”.
