A scheduled one-day European strike by air traffic controllers has been called off.
The ATCEUC union had planned to strike across Europe on October 10 in a dispute over changes to the way the EU’s airspace is managed.
But the union decided to call off the strike on Friday afternoon (October 4) after the European Commission said it was willing to talk about changing its current plans.
ATCEUC said that it had been given assurances by the EC that it was “willing to really discuss the safety issues and our views on their unrealistic cost efficiency targets”.
“For the time being, ATCEUC is giving the EC the chance to correct past errors,” said the union in a statement.
“Otherwise, ATCEUC and its union members, representing 14,000 ATC officers throughout Europe, are fully ready to take further and stronger actions in the next few weeks, including those that have been now postponed.”
