Air India has unveiled a new brand identity and aircraft livery that “captures the essence of a bold new India”, the carrier announced on Thursday (10 August).
The new look, designed in partnership with design firm FutureBrand, features a chakra-inspired pattern with a palette of deep red, aubergine and gold highlights and custom-made ‘Air India Sans’ font.
Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said: “Our transformative new brand reflects an ambition to make Air India a world-class airline serving guests from around the globe, and that represents a new India proudly on the global stage.
“We are in the midst of a total transformation to reimagine the role of India’s flagship airline,” he added.
Travellers will begin to see the new logo from December 2023, when Air India’s first Airbus A350 enters the fleet in the new livery.
The move follows major deals earlier this year with aircraft manufactures Airbus and Boeing that will see the carrier take delivery of 470 aircraft, with the first deliveries beginning in November 2023.
Further upgrades include a $400 million programme to refurbish the interiors of the carrier’s legacy fleet of 43 widebody aircraft, with work to begin in mid-2024.
The carrier said by March 2024, 33 per cent of its fleet will be upgraded with new seats in every cabin, new inflight entertainment systems and inflight wifi connectivity, and that by the end of 2026 its entire long-haul fleet will be “reborn”.
Air India also recently announced a global lounge network expansion and said it is investing in building new lounges at Delhi and New York JFK airports.
