Air China made a net profit of RMB4.803 million (£455,600) in 2009, up 151% on the RMB9.367 million (£888,400) loss in 2008.
The overall turnover of the airline was a fraction down (2.86%), but Air China decreased its operating expenses by 26.82% last year.
Passenger load factor was up fractionally (1.65%) to 76.53%.
International traffic revenue fell by more than 20%, but domestic traffic revenue grew by 14.04%.
Air China has been developing its use of Beijing as a hub, serving other destinations in Europe, which has resulted in a 34% growth in transfer passengers through the airport.
Corporate customer sales grew 15.7% last year.
The airline also posted positive sales for the first quarter of 2010, and an overall rise in traffic of 15%.
