AIR ATLANTIQUE continues on its post-West Midlands International Airport life (ABTN 22 February) with the re-organisation of the Classic Flight. Acquired are a Coventry Airport built Gloster (Armstrong Whitworth) Meteor NF11 and deHavilland Vampire from Hunter Flight Ltd, both of which will be based at Coventry. They join two Shackletons (one flying in the USA), an English Electric Canberra, deHavilland Avro Anson, Percival Pembroke, Prentice and (soon) a Proctor, deHavilland Venom, Devon, Dove, two Dragon Rapides, a Chipmunk and an Auster Autocrat in the Classic Flight. Air Atlantique have added the two DC-6s and its four Dakotas, as well as a Convair CV-440, which will be restored to flying condition over the next 12 months. A DC-3 and the two DC-6s will be available for ad hoc cargo charters, and one Dakota (probably G-AMPY) will be put into air transport configuration and used for passenger flying during the summer. In addition, the Twin Pioneer, Dove, Dragon Rapides, and Prentice all have Public Transport Certificate of Airworthiness, and will be used for charter and pleasure flying. Atlantic Express, the group”s passenger charter operation, is also in for changes with the possibility of more aircraft arriving to join the ATR 42, Metroliner and the light twins.
