Some 72% of ABTN readers say aviation rules should be liberalised, to allow foreign ownership of airlines, against 28% who said no.
More than 1600 people voted in the poll, which asked if countries like the US and India should allow foreign ownership of their airlines.
Here are some comments from our readers:
"Why would corporations that include or whose business is substantially operating (an) airline(s) be any different from Kraft or Cadbury? Takeover and anti-trust rules should apply in the same manner for all and then there would be a much better chance of healthy competition for all airline services, from frequency, destination choice, aircraft configuration, food and service. Let's rid the world of expressions such as ‘X airline is the best for Y as far as US airlines are concerned'."
Another reader agrees:
"India's airline's are in serious trouble and crying out for help. The Indian government must reign in its protectionist tendencies."
A third reader said:
"I'm all for anything that will provide healthy service competition."
