Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has signed a contract with Far Eastern Group to manage the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan - due to open in the third quarter of 2008.
The 336-room property is the second that the two groups are in partnership with - Shangri-La manages another in Taipei, opened in 1994.
With 38 floors, the group claims it will feature the largest guestrooms - with an average size of 50 sq m (538 sq ft) - in the city of Tainan, in Southwest Taiwan, which has a well-developed industrial and economic infrastructure.
The property will feature the Horizon Club, a collection of 51 guestrooms and suites with special amenities and privileges such as express check-in and check-out, exclusive club lounge for daily breakfast and evening cocktails, and meeting facilities.
For the business traveller, the hotel will provide a total of 2,293 sq m of function space, including a 1,055 sq m ballroom as well as a 300 sq m auditorium and intimate function rooms totalling 550 sq m.
”After more than a decade of collaboration with Shangri-La”s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei, we are confident this new hotel will be a superlative addition to the Tainan hospitality industry,” said Far Eastern Group chairman and chief executive, Douglas Tong Hsu.
Shangri-La”s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel will be adjacent to the Tainan train station and a 20-minute drive from the high-speed rail station (THSR) with connections throughout Taiwan. A shopping complex is also close by.
Additional hotel facilities will include a health club, spa and outdoor swimming pool.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently has more than 50 projects in development in Austria, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Macau, United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Qatar, Thailand, UK and the US.
