Melia Hotels has reported a 180 per cent jump in year-on-year profits for 2016.
The Spanish hotel group earned a net profit of €100.7 million, helped by a 9.75 per cent RevPAR growth.
Melia vice chairman and CEO, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, said the strong performance reflected the “positive international travel environment”.
“Together with a significantly healthier balance sheet, and a business model increasingly based on international growth and management agreements, this places us in an unbeatable position to face the significant geopolitical, economic, social and technological challenges that affect the industry on a global level,” he said.
Melia figures were also helped by a 71 per cent growth in its online channel for agents, MeliaPro, as well as a growing rewards programme – members up 44 per cent, 58 per cent more stays and 43 per cent more revenues than 2015.
