Macdonald Hotels & Resorts has announced that it plans to offer free wifi across its 39 hotels.
The independent chain said it had secured a deal with internet provider The Cloud to roll out free wifi in all public areas, meetings rooms and guest rooms.
Macdonald is also planning to provide an enhanced wifi service at 14 conference and meetings venues with speeds of up 100 megabytes per second which it said would allow video conferencing and downloads from multiple devices.
David Guile, Macdonald’s chief executive, said: “More guests see free, reliable internet access as a crucial part of their hotel visit.
“To provide our guests with the service they expect we need to offer wifi that enables them to get online quickly and easily. This is a free, unlimited service, meaning people can spend as long as necessary online to ensure they get the most out of their stay.”
Macdonald’s wifi deal is part of a £6 million programme of IT improvements which also includes improving the company’s back office systems.
