Expanding hotel operator Premier Inn has benefited from a strong London market with total sales for the brand rising by 13.7 per cent during the last three months.
The chain, which is part of the Whitbread group, said that its London sales were up by 16.3 per cent in the quarter to the end of November as Premier increased its rooms in the UK capital by 10.1 per cent.
Outside London, Premier saw sales rise by 13.5 per cent during the third quarter helped by a 6.9 per cent increase in the number of available rooms.
Premier said it had “continued to win market share” for the first nine months of 2013 with total sales growth of 12.9 per cent and the number of rooms sold increasing by 10 per cent to 11.8 million compared to the same period last year.
Andy Harrison, Whitbread’s chief executive, said that Premier had so far opened 22 new properties in 2013, adding 2,718 new rooms, including two new international hotels.
“Whitbread has delivered another strong quarter, with total sales up 13.8 per cent and like-for-like sales up 4.3 per cent, driven by the strength of Premier Inn and Costa and an improved performance from restaurants,” added Harrison.
Whitbread said that Premier had a pipeline of around 10,500 rooms in the UK with around 4,500 rooms set to come on to the market in 2014 and 2015.
“Our pipeline includes 1,000 rooms for our new brand, Hub by Premier Inn, with the first hotel due to open in St Martin's Lane (in London) in the second half of 2014,” said the company in a statement.
