Hotel rates have risen in London and Manchester but have fallen across most other UK cities.
Average room rates rose in London by 4.11 per cent to £124.76 for the third quarter of 2013, while they also increased in Manchester by 3.94 per cent to £82.28, according to a report by hotel booking specialist HRS.
Reading was the only other UK destination to see an increase in rates – up by 4.66 per cent to an average of £86.34.
Elsewhere, Edinburgh saw the biggest fall in average rates with a drop of 11.8 per cent to £108.56. Birmingham recorded a 7 per cent reduction to £67.30, Bristol rates fell 4.4 per cent to £86.83 and Liverpool was down by 8 per cent to £72.09.
“This trend reflects the overall success of the Olympics last year, seen throughout the UK,” said HRS in its report.
“Room rates increased in the third quarter of 2012, and these rates have not been sustained following the games. The notable exception is London which has capitalised on its global prominence to boost its tourism leading to an increase in room rates.”
Prices in most major European cities rose during the third quarter of 2013 with Copenhagen seeing the high rise by 9.3 per cent to £116.14. Other cities to see significant rises included Barcelona (up by 6.4 per cent to £94.50) and Rome (up by 5.3 per cent to £77.56). But Paris rates only rose by 0.7 per cent to £112.56 year-on-year.
Istanbul was the city to see the biggest reduction with a drop of 7 per cent to £75.92. Warsaw and Vienna also saw rate falls of more than 5 per cent.
