Group signs two new properties for Meridien brand in Asia
Le Meridien Hotels plans to open two new properties in Asia, one in Xiamen scheduled for 2009 and the other in Taipei in 2011, both to be operated by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.
The Taipei property is the group”s first in Taiwan and will be in the city”s business district Hysinyi, close to the Taipei Convention centre, Taipei World Trade Centre, City Hall and one of the world”s tallest buildings, Taipei 101.
Le Meridien Taipei will feature 161 guestrooms and include 17,000 sq ft (1,580 sq m) of meeting space, three restaurants and a lounge, a health club and an indoor swimming pool.
Le Meridien Xiamen will be located on the slope of Xianyue Hill in the Huli district popular with business and leisure travellers and known as the centre for international trade, education, science and tourism.
With 345 guestrooms, the hotel will offer 24,000 sq ft (2,230 sq m) of meeting space, three restaurants and lounge, spa, indoor pool and gym.
These latest signings highlight Le Meridien”s continued development in Asia - last year the brand announced plans to develop five properties in Thailand to open this year and in 2009.
”A thriving centre for international business, Taipei boasts a vibrant arts scene and a rich variety of cultural institutions, while Xiamen is the cultural and academic heart of Fujian Province,” said Starwood Hotels and Resorts president Miguel Ko.
