Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) is to open its fifth property in France in autumn 2018.
The Intercontinental Lyon Hôtel Dieu will be converted from one of the oldest hospital buildings in France. It has been disused since 2010.
Located on the bank of the River Rhône, the hotel will adjoin a 2,500 sqm conference centre and will be part of a multi-purpose development project called Grand Hôtel Dieu featuring shops, restaurants and residential apartments.
The property's 143 rooms will include one presidential suite, 24 junior suites, and 118 deluxe and superior rooms.
It will feature a Club Intercontinental lounge, "multiple" restaurants, a lounge bar, two meeting rooms and a 100 sqm fitness centre.
The connected conference centre will include nine meeting rooms, a lounge and a 500 sqm ballroom.
It will be the fifth Intercontinental property in France, joining Intercontinental Paris - Le Grand, Intercontinental Paris - Avenue Marceau, Intercontinental Marseille Hôtel Dieu and Intercontinental Carlton Cannes.
Last month, IHG sold Intercontinental Paris - Le Grand, although it still manages the hotel.
Willemijn Geels, IHG's associate vice president of development, Northern and Eastern Europe, said: "We're thrilled to be expanding our Intercontinental brand in France and cementing our leading position in the international hotel market... This hotel will be an exceptional addition to our European portfolio."
IHG currently operates 55 hotels in France, with seven properties in the pipeline.
