InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is to open a Holiday Inn in India”s third largest city, Chennai.
Costing $35m, Holiday Inn Estancia Chennai is a 200-room, 75-suite hotel which will be managed by IHG and is scheduled to open in 2011.
It will be part of a development ” the Estancia Integrated Township, earmarked as a special economic zone ” which will include a residential area with 1,900 apartments, a 3,000,000 sq ft (280,000 sq m) technology park, and a retail mall.
Holiday Inn Estancia Chennai will be 35km south of the city centre along National Highway 45, with good access to the international airport and suburban railway network.
”In the Indian hospitality sector we see enormous opportunity for growth in the mid-market segment,” said IHG Asia Pacific senior vice president sales and marketing Gary Rosen. ”Chennai”s economic growth is fuelled by the development of special economic zones such as the Estancia Integrated Township, and Holiday Inn will be uniquely positioned to cater to the needs of both business and leisure travellers.”
IHG has 13 properties in India and a further 21 in the pipeline under InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands.
