Starwood Hotels & Resorts is to open its first W-branded property in Eastern Europe ” the W St Petersburg in European Russia. Located in the centre of the city south of the Neva River, the hotel will feature 135 rooms with the latest business travel amenities, including a virtual office accessible from guest rooms and the brand”s Whatever/Wherever 24-hour concierge.
Commenting on Starwood”s decision to open a hotel in the Russian city, president of the luxury brand group Ross Klein said: ”St Petersburg is a fascinating destination. The ongoing regeneration of the city combines the culture and history of Russia”s past with the energy and style of the country”s future, making this one of the most intriguing destinations in the world and a perfect fit for W.”
This latest addition, due to open mid-2008, is the sixth W-branded hotel planned for the Europe and Middle East regions. Other properties are also set for Barcelona, Athens, Istanbul and Dubai. The W Doha Hotel & Residences in Qatar is due to open later this year, with 292 rooms (including 31 suites), and 154 serviced apartments.
