Budget hotel group Easyhotel has purchased land in Barcelona for its first property in Spain.
The group, which was set up by Easyjet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou in 2004, has acquired land on Gran Via in Barcelona’s L'Hospitalet district to construct a 204-room hotel.
Easyhotel has already been granted planning permission for the property, which is expected to open in early 2018.
The company currently operates three of its own hotels with 390 rooms and has another 15 franchised properties under the Easyhotel brand offering a total of more than 1,500 rooms.
Easyhotel also has a total of 12 hotels in its development pipeline including five properties which it owns, including four planned UK hotels in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Ipswich.
The seven planned Easyhotel franchise properties include sites in Amsterdam, Dubai, Lisbon, Turkey and Reading.
