Easyhotel is planning further UK expansion after purchasing a building in Ipswich.
The chain, which is part of Easyjet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou’s Easygroup empire, plans to convert the building in Northgate Street into a new budget property.
Easyhotel currently operates 21 properties in the UK, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic and Dubai. There are plans in the pipeline to open new hotels in Liverpool, Manchester and Barcelona.
The company will need to secure planning permission to convert the Grade II-listed building in Ipswich into a 94-room hotel. Easyhotel said the property is expected to open next year.
Easyhotel’s CEO Guy Parsons said: “We are delighted to be investing in the vibrant cultural centre of Ipswich which is a gateway to the UK's highly popular east coast.
“We expect to benefit from growing local business and tourism in the area as we extend our owned brand presence in the UK.”
