In a busy week for Marriott International, the hotel group has opened executive apartments in Jakarta, released plans for a Gatwick hotel to open in 2008 and completed refurbishments to the meeting and events facilities in the Boston Marriott Copley Place.
Located in Jakarta's central business district 20km from Soekarno-Hatta Jakarta airport, The Mayflower - Jakarta, Marriott Executive Apartments offers 96 one, two and three bedroom serviced apartments. The complex also has a fully equipped business centre, indoor swimming pool, spa and gym.
”As the global economy expands, there is an increasing market for high-end luxury apartments for business travellers who have a need to be in a market for an extended period of time,” explained regional vice president of sales and marketing Asia-Pacific Paul Toner. A further three apartment complexes will open later this year: the Yeouido Park Tower, Seoul; the Marriott Executive Apartments Bahrain; and the Marriott Executive Apartments Doha, Qatar.
Further developments include the Courtyard by Marriott London Gatwick Airport, due to open in 2008. The 218-room hotel will operate under a franchise agreement with Kew Green Hotels (who has decided to re-brand the 11 Courtyard properties currently in its hotel portfolio as Intercontinental Holiday Inns).
This week also sees the completion of a $13m refurbishment project to the meetings and events facilities at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. Enhancements have been made to the property's 24 meeting rooms, the Grand Ballroom and the Back Bay Conference and Exhibit Hall, including better sound, lighting and internet systems.
