Airbnb has expanded into offering ‘whole trips’ with a move to add flights and services into the booking process in the future.
The sharing economy provider said ‘Trips’ is its most significant development in its eight year history.
It launches with three key areas – experiences, places and homes and flights and services to come.
“Until now, Airbnb has been about homes,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb CEO. “Today, Airbnb is launching Trips, bringing together where you stay, what you do, and the people you meet all in one place. We want to make travel magical again by putting people back at the heart of every trip.”
One major part of Trips will see local “experts” offer their knowledge and experience for a cost.
Trips launches with around 500 Experiences in 12 cities globally, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Detroit, Havana, London, Paris, Florence, Nairobi, Cape Town, Tokyo and Seoul.
Airbnb has seen significant growth in the past few years and is now a major supplier in the accommodation sector with the largest amount of content of any hotel provider, behind only to the newly-merged Starwood and Marriott brands.
