LONDON saw the arrival of the new Swan Hellenic cruise liner Minerva II last week. At 30,000 tons she is the biggest ship to venture as far up the Thames as St Katharine Docks since the days of the Empire. Twice the displacement of HMS Belfast, and 600 ft long, she was far too big to go under Tower Bridge. She did however mark the start of a campaign by the Port of London Authority to attract more passenger ships into the Pool of London. Minerva II is a specialist 600 passenger cruise ship, more like a floating country house hotel, offering all inclusive deals (no tipping) with passengers normally taking 14/15 day packages. Over a 12 month period the ship will take in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and both north and south America. Qantas is the charter flight provider for most changeovers. http://www.swanhellenic.com
