LONDON”S MILLENNIUM DOME, extremely visible whether you arrive into the nation”s capital by air or ship, is about to be revitalised as a concert and sports venue. The master plan provides the potential for a 26,000 capacity entertainment and sports arena inside the Dome, a further 62,000 square metres of entertainment and leisure space around the arena and a new 630-room hotel. Up to 10,000 new homes will be built, 340,000 square metres of commercial space constructed, 33,000 square metres retail provision and a new school with additional community education facilities as well as significant areas of public open space. Work is expected to start in spring 2005. The Dome also features in London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
