It seems some Northwest Airlines” passengers got a little worried the other week. They did not recognise the airport they had just landed at. It should have been Rapid City, South Dakota (the home of the Mt Rushmore National Memorial) but the terminal building seemed to have been replaced by barrack-like structures and the military were everywhere. An announcement over the PA asked for the window blinds to be closed down (the crew”s second mistake of the day). The virtually full Airbus A319 was actually at Ellsworth Air Force Base, not far from Rapid City Airport and also with long concrete runways!
Both the FAA and Northwest Airlines are investigating the matter!
