Ryanair has re-branded The Flying Machine at Blackpool”s pleasure beach. ”The Ryanair Flying Machine”. The airline, which is sometimes vitriolic in its condemnation of British Airways has been really caught out this time. Blackpool”s ancient ride just does not compare with BA”s London Eye. And the view from the South Bank is superior too. Mind you the assistant flying staff are arguably better looking than the London crew. See the ABTN web site.
Although we have closed the book on Bob Hope (and it is not aviation related) this one has come in. It”s not by Hope but surely it would have found favour with him.
”The Americans are doing fine; they have George W. Bush, Johnny Cash and Bob Hope. We have (read in the name of your own prime minister/president), no Cash and no Hope”.
And finally we heard the story of the company chief executive whose wife was in the habit of phoning in at the most inopportune moments for the most unimportant reasons.
On this occasion he was in a significant meeting but she persisted to his secretary that she must get through.
”Ask her if it is good news or bad news,” he said.
The response was immediate. ”Tell him the air bag works!”
