EASA is the latest acronym to be fostered upon the aerospace community. The European Aviation Safety Agency is charged by the EC initially to shape new rules for aviation safety regarding the certification of aeronautical products, parts and appliances and the approval of organisations and personnel engaged in the maintenance of these products. In time the organisation will be responsible for the approval of air operations, the licensing of air crew and the safety oversight of airports and air traffic services operators. Early days for what will eventually replace the JAA.
