CYPRUS visitors, that is people on vacation or business to the Greek Cypriot southern part of the island, will be pleased to learn that the authorities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have decided to allow all nationals of the EU countries (including Greek Cypriots) to cross the UN-manned demarcation line by showing only identity cards. Initially the TRNC authorities had planned to exempt Greek Cypriot residents from the waiver, but have now dropped reservations. The move will undoubtedly help the breakaway state's economy, especially its tourism sector and assist in its determination for Cyprus to become a single state. Only Greek Cyprus is now part of the EU, the southerners failing to endorse a UN plan to reunify the island in time for EU accession.
