Talks between Amadeus and Lufthansa over the airline's Preferred Fares scheme have stalled.
Lufthansa told BTE this week that there are "no active talks at the moment."
Amadeus said that as the talks has so far failed to reach agreement, it would be re-imbursing its travel agents in Germany and Austria any fees they had to pay for booking flights with the airline.
It said it would continue to re-imburse these agents either until the end of 2008 or an agreement was reached with Lufthansa.
Both parties said they were still open for talks with Lufthansa adding it wanted a deal "which resulted in an efficient commercial solution for both sides."
The airline said it had successfully launched the controversial preferred fares scheme in Germany and Austria on Tuesday (July 1).
Under this fares scheme, fares of Lufthansa and its subsidiary SWISS went go up by 15 one way and 30 for a round trip on tickets bought in Germany and Austria from July 1.
Prices for tickets bought in Switzerland and Liechtenstein will go by the same amount up from October 1.
But the carriers said they would continue to make available the previous lower fares after those dates.
These will be called "preferred fares" and would be available on the airlines' websites.
But if they are booked through a GDS, they will be subject to the surcharge.
Lufthansa is charging agencies 4.90 plus VAT per coupon and SWISS will charge CHF8 (5) per booking. The scheme has been strongly opposed by agents whose association in Germany, the DRV, took the matter to the Bundeskartellamt, the German monopolies' authority, last month.
Amadeus, the largest GDS in Germany with 80% of the market, is the only major GDS not to signed an agreement with Lufthansa.
Rivals Sabre and Travelport GDS, representing Galileo and Worldspan, have both signed deals which exempt their agents from any fees.
A spokesman for Amadeus said that if no deal had been signed by October 1 when Switzerland is due to be included in the scheme, it would re-imburse agents there as well.
No meetings for further talks between Amadeus and Lufthansa appear to be fixed.
